After the changes that took place at Poznan University of Medical Sciences in 2019, the Faculty of Medical Sciences offers studies in seven fields of study, continuing the over 25-year-old tradition of education started in 1992 by the Faculty of Medicine II. Every year, the faculty graduates about 350 students - including about 100 dentists. It is a prestigious faculty (category A in the classification of the Ministry of Science), with great scientific achievements, competent teaching staff and a very wide educational offer, changed in accordance with the expectations of many student organizations closely cooperating with the dean's authorities. The faculty is constantly developing its didactic base. It has a  state-of-the-art laboratory for the education of hearing prosthetics students and a very modern phantom room for future dentists. Students develop also their practical skills in a modern Medical Simulation Center.

The Faculty of Medical Sciences of Poznan University of Medical Sciences was established on the basis of the resolution by the Senate of the University on February 25, 1992, as the Medical Faculty. The current name was introduced on March 11, 1992. Following the proposal put forward by the then Rector, professor Antoni Pruszewicz, the Division of Dentistry was incorporated into the newly-established Faculty. Additionally, two new divisions were founded: the Postgraduate Medical Education Division and the Division of Medical Education in English. One of the first tasks of the new Faculty was to develop a 4-year doctor’s training programme modeled on the programmes of American medical schools.

On November 29, 1993 the newly-founded Faculty was authorised to award academic degrees.

The tasks of the Faculty of Medicine II with respect to undergraduate education focused on the implementation of the dentistry programme as well as on programmes in English, and with respect to postgraduate education - on the implementation of obligatory, specialised and skill-improving courses in medicine and dentistry within the framework of the Postgraduate Medical Education Division.

The greatest challenge faced by the Faculty was the organisation, implementation and gradual improvement of the MD (and later also DDS) programmes in English. The Division for Medical Education in English, established to achieve this ambitious goal, was launched in September, 1993, when the first group of American Students begun their studies in Advanced MD Programme.

Two years later the University admitted the first group of students to a 6-year MD programme in English, whose curriculum corresponded to that of the Polish programmes. It was aimed at students who had completed their secondary education. In the academic year 2001/2002 the DDS programme in English was successfully launched. That was the first programme of dentistry in English in Poland.

In 2004/2005 full-time and extramural bachelor's programmes for dental technicians and dental hygienists were introduced, as well as a master-level programme in Biotechnology - specialisation: Medical Biotechnology.

The division of medical and dental education at the Faculty of Medical Sciences was acclaimed by the Polish State Accreditation Committee, who audited it in 2004. Also in 2004, dentistry courses were moved to the premises of the state-of-the-art Center of Dentistry, erected as a result of many-years’ efforts of the University authorities and the significant assistance from the local members of the Polish parliament.
